This project started out as an exercise to practice hard-surface modeling in Maya.
The boat was fully modeled from scratch and based on an illustration by Nik Henderson. Textures were hand painted using Adobe Substance Painter, which helped me achieve this a similar look to the style used in the original concept art.
The other assets were individually edited in Photoshop and later brought into After Effects, along with the final boat render. All of the compositing and animation were also done in After Effects. I’m hoping to revisit this project in the future and explore other possibilities for the boat model.
Below you can see process turnarounds of the model, as well as the concept art I used as a reference for my project.
