This is Mr. Sock! He was modeled and textured from scratch in Maya, and rigged using Advanced Skeleton. The walk-cycle animation was also fully done in Maya, from block-in to splined animation.
As for the background, all assets were individually edited in Photoshop and later brought into After Effects. All of the compositing and additional animation were done in After Effects as well. This was such a fun project to work on!
I wanted his model to feel very bouncy and cartoony but still be consistent enough where I could lock down a walk cycle that felt real and balanced.
Here is a little breakdown of the 3D process, as well as a playblast of what his Rig looks like in motion!
Finally, here's a rough sketch of what I wanted him to look like! I always try to have a clear visual of the character before jumping into the block-in phase in Maya. I also had a lot of fun trying to visualize the world Mr. Sock is in, I love playing around with color and texture for projects like this.
